Juicing is the process of extracting the juice from fresh fruits and vegetables. A small kitchen appliance known as a juicer is used to extract the juice, and these can range in price from $50-$500. Juicing has both pros and cons.
Although juicing allows you to get a large amount of vitamins and minerals from a significant quantity of fruits/vegetables all at once, the problem is that you are also getting a large dose of sugar at the same time. Yes it is all natural sugar, and therefore perhaps better for you than highly processed sugars like fructose corn syrup. However, in the body, this natural fruit/vegetable sugar can still have you experience a large spike in blood sugar followed by a subsequent crash resulting in low energy levels. You are also missing out on the healthy fiber that comes from the fruits and vegetables as you are only getting their juice and not the full plant matter that comes attached to it as is found in nature.
In general, juicing has many benefits due to the high amounts of vitamins and minerals, and it is certainly better than purchasing highly processed juice concentrates from the store. However, a better alternative would be to make smoothies in a blender where you are consuming the entire fruit/vegetable, fiber and all. Not only will smoothies help you feel fuller longer due to their high fiber content, they are much less likely to cause a sugar crash and accompanying low energy levels. So choose to blend up fruits and veggies instead, and don’t forget to add some Purely Inspired® 100% Plant-Based Protein for added nutrients and protein in your diet!
