Whenever you need a pick-me-up, or literally want to be picked up, who do you go to? Mom, of course. So, if you want to put a smile on your mom’s face this Mother’s Day, you can make her one of these DIY feel good gifts.
Breakfast In Bed Surprise
Start Mother’s Day off right by surprising your mom with breakfast in bed as soon as she wakes up. Not only will she be so excited to see your face in the morning, she’ll also be appreciative that you woke up early to make her favorite breakfast on Mother’s Day morning. And if you need any help making breakfast for mom on Mother’s Day, you can ask an older sibling or another family member for assistance.
DIY Flower Bouquet
Since Mother’s Day is celebrated in May, that means there’s a good chance there will be flowers in your family’s garden. Go find the most colorful and special flowers in your yard and then gift wrap them for mom. It’s always a nice touch to coordinate the wrapping papers and ribbons with the colors of the fresh flowers. Or you can place the flowers in a beautiful DIY mason jar vase.
A Personalized Coupon Book Just For Mom
How many times a year does your mom ask you to clean your room, do your homework, or help out with the chores? Instead of making her ask you to do something, you can create a personalized coupon book just for mom.
All you need for this thoughtful Mother’s Day DIY gift is some construction paper (bonus points for using lots of different colors), scissors (to cut the colorful paper into coupons), and some crayons or markers to draw and write with. On the front page of the coupon book, you can write something like, ‘Mom’s Coupon Book’ in big, bold letters and then sign your name on the bottom so she knows the gift is from you. Then draw designs for the coupons in mom’s book and write what the coupon is for.
For example, if your mom asks you to clean up your toys a lot, you can make her a coupon that says, ‘Toy Cleanup.’ Then when your mom wants you to clean up your toys, instead of her telling you to do so, she can just give you the coupon. Some other ideas for coupons are doing the laundry, taking your dog for a walk all week long, and setting the table for dinner and cleaning up after the meal. You can also write when the coupons must be redeemed by, if you’d like. Then when it’s time to put your coupon book together, punch a hole in the top left corner of each coupon and then thread a ribbon through all the coupons, tying everything together. Mom will love this gift since she will see how much time and thought you put into creating it. Plus, it’s very clever and original!
A Heart Cookie Box
Since you always have so much fun baking with mom, you can ask her a day or two before Mother’s Day if you can bake cookies with her. Then on Mother’s Day, you can present her with a handmade heart cookie box that has the treats that you made together inside. You can create the designs on this decorated wooden cookie box using contact paper cutouts and paint. On the front of the wooden box, make sure to paint a heart. Inside the heart, you can write, ‘I love you, Mom!’
‘Favorite Things About Mom’ Card
Sometimes the best way to let someone know just how much you love them is by telling them. You can print out this card and then fill-in your answers, or you can make this card yourself. On the front of your homemade Mother’s Day card, you can write, ‘Happy Mother’s Day, Mom!’ Then inside the card, make sure to write all of your favorite things about mom.
Some sentence starters for you are:
I love when my mom…
My favorite thing about my mom is…
Something I love doing with mom is…
I love my mom because…
